Pastor of Youth Position Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: PASTOR OF YOUTH

DEFINING THE POSITION

Pastor

· This man shall be a member of our pastoral team, with concern for the whole ministry of Barcroft Bible Church and with primary responsibility for youth ministries. The Pastor of Youth will function under the direct supervision of a senior pastor and the oversight of the Board of Elders.

· The Pastor of Youth is specifically responsible for the spiritual and administrative leadership of the youth ministry of Barcroft Bible Church. This responsibility is inclusive of youth from Junior High (grades 7-8), Senior High (grades 9-12), and college-age, with the emphasis of his day-to-day ministry being in the Senior High.

DETAILING THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Youth Ministry

The Youth Ministry will be directed in accordance with the Barcroft Bible

Church Statement of Faith and the Barcroft Bible Church

Philosophy for Youth Ministry.

· The Pastor of Youth shall:

o Teach the Word of God and its personal application at least once a week to the youth of Barcroft.

o Plan and implement a regular youth prayer ministry.

o Oversee a balanced youth ministry to include regular opportunities for worship, fellowship, discipleship, mission and ministry.

o Use music in youth activities that is consistent with the church’s Statement on Music.

o Identify and equip adult leaders from the membership of Barcroft Bible Church who will assist him in youth ministry.

o Maintain regular communication with the parents of the youth, to include scheduled parent meetings.

o Advise youth and their families in areas of Christian growth and conflict resolution.

o Work together with our Elders to shepherd, equip, and encourage parents of youth, especially fathers.

o Oversee and administer youth retreats, camps, and ministry opportunities, including a summer Missions trip once every two years.

o Encourage youth to be involved in Sunday Worship and other church ministries.

o Provide a periodic written youth ministry report to the Board of Elders.

o Submit an annual budget proposal to the Treasurer and oversee said budget.

· As a member of the Pastoral Staff, he shall:

o Attend church-wide gatherings.

o Assist in pastoral and other duties as directed by a senior pastor.

o Meet weekly with the pastoral staff.

o Participate in worship services as scheduled.

o Preach as requested.

DESCRIBING THE MAN

The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria:

· Christian man of proven spiritual maturity who:

o Is characterized by a fervent love for Jesus Christ (John 21:15-17)

o Possesses the character qualities for pastors (I Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9; I Peter 5:1-4)

o Has an active prayer life (Romans 12:12)

o Possesses a clear conscience toward God and men (I Timothy 3:9)

o Applies the Word of God in his own life (II Timothy 3:14-17)

o Is dependent upon the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25)

· Committed to God’s Word as the standard for teaching, counseling and leadership (II Timothy 3:16-17)

· Agrees unreservedly with the Barcroft Bible Church Statement of Faith, Barcroft Bible Church Statement on Music, and the Barcroft Bible Church Philosophy for Youth Ministry.

· Ordained or will soon be a candidate for ordination.

· Has completed a seminary degree in theology or Bible.

· Has at least 1 year of leadership experience in local church youth ministry that reflects a clear record of accomplishment. Preference will be given to candidates with more experience.

· Able to clearly and effectively communicate with people.

· Able to teach the truth of God’s Word.

· Passionate about pastoring youth.

· Committed and able to train and equip others for the work of ministry.

· Demonstrates the ability to work with people in a team situation.

· Preferably married.

The Pastor of Youth will need to relocate to the Fairfax, VA area, preferably by September 1, 2008. Candidates need to complete the Barcroft Bible Church employment application and Child Abuse Prevention application.
